New Media Page

One of the hallmarks of the Ramah experience is our emphasis on Jewish music. We are blessed to have an incredible Shira staff, led and directed by Sally Heckelman, a Ramah parent and local Jewish professional, and a talented group of dance instructors with deep roots in the world of Jewish and Israeli dance (rikud, in Hebrew). Our camp day begins with rikud all together on the migrash (field), and our day is filled with shira (singing), which weaves its way in between each program we run.

Shira and rikud have long been part of the Ramah culture, not just here in DC but in the national Ramah movement. There is something about singing and dancing that helps us live the most authentic form of ourselves, and opens up children and young adults (and full grown adults, for that matter!) to be themselves, uninhibited and unabashed. Shira and rikud are not only connectors to the Hebrew language and the state of Israel, but vehicles of both self-expression and social connection.

For those who have been campers or staff in our community in the last few summers, you might join us in having these melodies stuck in your head as you go about your day. For those families who are joining the Ramah mishpacha in 2017, maybe you want to get a head start on learning some of these tunes.

That’s why we’ve opened a media page on our brand new website. Click here to visit the page, under the “Current Families – After Camp” section of the site, to stream our shira and rikud repertoire at Ramah Day Camp. This page will be updated each summer with the newest musical additions.

Stream, listen, mine the list for your next mp3 purchase ideas, and share with Ramah friends. Of course, let us know if you have any feedback about the site or the new media page.
