New Hebrew Immersion Pilot Program

We are excited to announce the launch of a pilot Hebrew immersion program at Ramah Day Camp this summer!

The Sha’ar program is modeled after a similarly named program at our partner camp in Nyack, NY. Within each of our divisions, campers are divided into kvutzot (groups) of 10-15 campers with 2-3 counselors. Campers enrolled in Sha’ar will be grouped together, and their designated counselors will only speak to them in Hebrew. Sha’ar campers participate in a normal and full camp schedule, with 3 electives like all other campers. In place of our experiential Jewish learning period, Sha’ar campers will instead participate in a chug Ivri with more formalized Hebrew instruction from our highly trained Hebrew educators. Edah programming, swim, snacks, and electives will all be integrated with the larger camp community. It’s a full Ramah day, but in Hebrew!

Pending sufficient enrollment, Sha’ar will launch with 10 campers in our Shorashim edah (current preK and kindergarteners) as a pilot in 2017. In order to provide a consistent and immersive experience, campers must be enrolled for the full 6 weeks.

Here is a taste of Sha’ar from Ramah Day Camp in Nyack:
