Yom Yisrael: Traveling with Ramah

Shalom from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv! Moments ago flight RDC17 landed from Washington D.C. and about one hundred fifty Ramah Day Camp hanichim landed in Israel! Their journey began in Tel Aviv with a game of song bingo! Our fabulous Mishlachat sang popular Israeli songs as our hanichim scrambled to find the lyrics on their bingo boards. With anticipation to experience more israeli culture, our hanichim traveled North along the Mediterranean Sea to Haifa where they learned about the innovative ways that Israel has made technological advances for the rest of the world. Campers participated in challenging tasks only to discover that Israelis have created more effective technology for completing those tasks. Their adventure continued South into Jerusalem where hanichim wrote personal notes and placed them in a homemade Kotel. The hanichim then traveled further South to the Negev. Known for having an prominent Arab presence, the hanichim experienced the culture of the Negev by learning Arabic words and baking pita over a ta’abun, a creative pita-making device. Their journey concluded with a trip all the way south in Israel to Eilat where they were surprised by a taste of IDF training. Campers completed timed exercises and discovered that the Army is both strict and rewarding. After a wonderful day in Israel, our campers returned home with a new perspective of Israeli culture and are eager to experience more! Yom Yisrael Sameach!
